I have previously completed P90X a couple of times and got good results but don't have 60-90 minutes a day to workout and found it too repetitive and overkill and wanted something different to try. I am 53 and 5'8" and have always been thin but after about age 40, I gradually put on about 25 pounds due to aging and poor eating habits and a lot of misinformation on proper diet. I lost half of that 2 years ago doing the previous program and have since maintained that weight but grown soft again. My goal was to lose another 10+ pounds (lose 1 pound per week while also adding lean muscle), get reasonably close to a flat stomach, regain my muscle definition and add some size, correct my borderline high fasting blood sugar levels and blood lipid levels and get off my statin drug by eating properly.
After reading Shin's dietary guidelines I was inspired to learn more and correlate what he had to say and I read 4 more books on eating lower carb, correcting metabolic syndrome and getting your metabolism and hormones working properly. My eyes were opened to the current science and I hope to use this knowledge to help my wife and kids as well and get the entire family eating for better overall health. My father died of a heart attack at age 50 and my younger brother has already had two heart attacks and bypass surgery and I have twin boys that are only 10 years old so I am motivated to get and stay healthy for many years and I refuse to slowly deteriorate with aging like most other people! I also hope to inspire my wife to follow in my footsteps. I have more energy, stamina and self confidence than I have had in years and look forward to going to the pool with my kids and looking better than guys 20 years younger.
